SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 15

Honoring Marian McQuade of Oak Hill, Fayette County, West
Virginia, the founder of National Grandparents' Day and
distinguished West Virginian.
Whereas, Marian McQuade, the mother of fifteen children and
grandmother to forty grandchildren, spearheaded the efforts of
many individuals to establish National Grandparents' Day, a day
of observance to honor grandparents in appreciation for their
knowledge and guidance as senior citizens; and
Whereas, In 1978, President Jimmy Carter signed the public
law designating the first Sunday after Labor Day as National
Grandparents' Day; and
Whereas, In addition to founding National Grandparents' Day,
Marian McQuade has dedicated much of her life to improving the
quality of life for senior citizens. She has served on a myriad
of committees and commissions involving citizen issues;
therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby commends Marian McQuade of Fayette
County, West Virginia, a dedicated advocate on behalf of senior
citizens and the founder of National Grandparents' Day, and
wishes her heartfelt best wishes for any future endeavors she may
choose to undertake; and, be it
Further Resolved,
That the Clerk is hereby directed to
forward a copy of this resolution to Marian McQuade.
